If you are using MailSite in SQL Connector mode your DBA should be able to generate a query for you.  If you are running in Registry mode then you can consider using the following document to assist:

You will need to

 

-List all the mailboxes to a flat file

-Modify the flat file so that for each mailbox listed you have something like

 

msbox -get 1@domain.com OtherMailbox

msbox -get 2@domain.com OtherMailbox

msbox -get 1@domain.com OtherMailbox

 

-Save the file as a .bat, then execute

-You can pipe the results to a test file using the > command (see the KB doc).

We require account holders to maintain an alternate email address on file for security reasons related to account deletion and pw reset.  Some users do not comply.
 
Is there a command for the mailsite utilities that would output, for a specific domain, the account username and the alt email address or, if nothing, a blank entry etc?

Hi there

 

You can set the service to restart in the event of a failure under Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services.

 

First I suggest you ensure you are running the latest hotfixes for 7.0.6 which can be located from:

 
 
If there is still a problem then I would recommend you consider upgrading to the latest version of MailSite which will likely has addressed this issue.  Without obtaining crash dumps of the SMTPRA service we cannot determine why the service is crashing.  It could be related to a number of things such as sieve filter, banner etc.

 

If you have a support contract then you can open a support case directly with MailSite support for further assistance.

This issue relates to a problem with the MSXML package that is shipped with the MailSite installer.
 
If any customer is facing a similar problem, please contact MailSite support for information on how to work around this problem.

Hi There,

I need help!

In the last month Mailsite SMTPRA service has died on me three times. I updated and am running version 7.06 since it was released and never had this problem until recently.

I have the log sent to a SQL database and there is no SMTPRA error reported.

The Windows Event Log says:

Event Source:     Service Control Manager

Time:          8:48:54 AM
Description:
The MailSite SMTP Receiver service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 1 time(s).

I am running Windows Server 2003 SP2 with all updates installed.

Does any body know what is going on?

Does any body know a way for MailSite to let me know when this happen? The last time, a few minutes ago, SMTPRA was down for two hours before I realized it.

I guess there are different approaches to blocking spam.  One is the kind of brute force approach that most spam blockers take by trying to determine whether an individual message is spam or not.  This involves deep message inspection, which requires a lot of horsepower. 

Another approach is a bit more heuristic, trying to detect spammers, and relies on more easily identifiable characteristics that have almost nothing to do with the actual message content, like where the message is originating from (the server).

Simply blocking connections from dynamic IPs eliminates a huge amount of spam.  Greylisting works very well for spambots, too.  Blocking connections from servers that don't have valid rDNS eliminates a bunch more.  RBLs are good, too.  HELO/EHLO validation I found can be problematic.  I also block all connections from mail servers in China, Taiwan and Korea.  If someone in one of these countries needs to send me email, extremely rare, I tell them to use my Gmail account.

You'll never get 100% spam protection, but I think trying to detect spammers instead of spam is the way to go.

Otto, not with the free version of MailSite, which doesn't include the anti-spam stuff like greylisting.

Wow, Untangle looks very powerful, and if I had a spare server sitting around, I might be tempted, but it's probably overkill for my little home office installation here.  PreSMTP runs easily on the same server as MailSite and IIS and gives me enough functionality to make me happy.
