It has done this 1 time(s).<br /><br />I am running Windows Server 2003 SP2 with all updates installed.<br /><br />Does any body know what is going on?<br /><br />Does any body know a way for MailSite to let me know when this happen?     <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="http://forum.mailsite.com/member_profile.asp?PF=1608">Mark in CA</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> SMTP Preprocessor -- Free<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> Nov 07 2008 at 10:19am<br /><br />I guess there are different approaches to blocking spam.&nbsp; One is the kind of brute force approach that most spam blockers take by trying to determine whether an individual message is spam or not.&nbsp; This involves deep message inspection, which requires a lot of horsepower.&nbsp; <br><br>Another approach is a bit more heuristic, trying to detect spammers, and relies on more easily identifiable characteristics that have almost nothing to do with the actual message content, like where the message is originating from (the server).<br><br>Simply blocking connections from dynamic IPs eliminates a huge amount of spam.&nbsp; Greylisting works very well for spambots, too.&nbsp; Blocking connections from servers that don't have valid rDNS eliminates a bunch more.&nbsp; RBLs are good, too.&nbsp; HELO/EHLO validation I found can be problematic.&nbsp; I also block all connections from mail servers in China, Taiwan and Korea.&nbsp; If someone in one of these countries needs to send me email, extremely rare, I tell them to use my Gmail account.<br><br>You'll never get 100% spam protection, but I think trying to detect spammers instead of spam is the way to go.<br>]]>
